Sandeep Lamichhane Nepali cricketer gets relief from court, available for 2024 World Cup selection

Sandeep Lamichhane got relief by Patan Court, setting aside the decision of Kathmandu District Court.

Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichanne breathed a sigh of relief after being proved innocent in the rape case. The Patan High Court has overturned the decision of the Kathmandu District Court. In which he was previously accused.

According to the report of setopati.com, Judge Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and Anju Upreti Dhakal bench overturned the district court’s decision and acquitted the leg star-spinner of all charges.

The High court’ deputy registrar quotes “The district court’s verdict has been overturned, Sandeep Lamichhane has been acquitted”.

Last year in December, the Kathmandu District Court bench had found Lamichhane guilty in the rape case of an 18 year old girl. Later, he was sentenced to 8 years in jail for this in January 2024. The leg spinner was fined Rs 3 lakh and the court ordered a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victim.

Sandeep was playing for Jamaica Tallwahs in CPL when the court announced the judgment, Tallawahs franchise immediately released him. And when Sandeep reached Kathmandu he was arrested.

The High Court Government Attorney office and Lamichhane both appealed in the High court of Patan. On oneside Attoney office appealed the verdict seeking maximum punishment. on the other hand Lamichhane appealed against the verdict of District court.

On February 22 , The High Court allowed him to appeal against District Court verdict , and allowed him to stay out of jail.

Although last year he was reconsidered for Nepal Cricket team for League 2 Tri-series. But unfortunately he got dropped due to injury .

After he got clearance from The High Court of Patan on rape case charges , he is likely to be added in the squad of Nepal’s Men cricket Team for 2024 world cup which will be played in USA and West Indies

He played his debut match against west Indies in the year 2018, From then on he has touched the heights, he got selected in IPL (Indian Premier League) for Delhi Capitals in the year 2018.

he has played 9 IPL matches in which he took 13 wickets with an economy of 8.34 and an average of 22.5 for Delhi Capitals .

later he got picked for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in 2018 and Nangarhar Leopards in the same year.

Though he got selected for IPL for One year , but he managed to establish himself in BBL (Big Bash League) where he played for Melbourne Stars (2018- 2020).

later he played for Hobert Hurricanes (2020-2022).

Sandeep Lamichhane played for some other teams as Sylhet Sixers, Lahore Qualandars, Barbados Tridents, Jamaica Tallawahs.

He is the Leading wicket Taker for nepal cricket team in Odi match he played 51 matches and took 112 wickets with bowling average of 18.06.

In T20 International Lamichhane played 52 matches and took 98 wickets at an average of 12.58.

He also hold the record of Second fastest to take 50 ODI wickets in 22 innings.

He holds the record of 2nd most wickets in a series, he took 72 wickets in 2019-2023 ICC Cricket World Cup League .

Sandeep hold for best Bowling Image for 6th wicket haul – he took 6/11 in 5.1 overs against PNG at AL Amaraton 10 September 2021.

9th most career wickets -98 wickets in T20 cricket.
